HAND WOVEN COTTON RAG RUGS
Handwoven rugs were one area where the Shaker's love of color and design truly blossomed. Most rag rugs made in the 19th century were practical but not particularly well designed; Shaker rugs, however, were characterized by a sense of order, balance, and symmetry. Rag rugs were made for years in all the Shaker villages. Our rag rugs are warp-faced, which means that the pattern is determined by the warp which is multi-colored. A special feature of these rugs is that they are tightly woven, but they are soft to the touch. Handwoven from a high quality American-made cotton yarn and new cotton fabric scrap from clothing manufacturers. Reversible. Made in USA.
