Hand Woven Jute Area Rug

This jute rug is expertly hand woven from two-ply hand-spun jute fiber, with its warm earth tones and interesting chunky texture. Boucle weave, which means that it feels great underfoot and looks great, too. Tucked ends. However, because it is a fiber (a cousin to manila rope), it will not work well in homes with dogs that chew and tear things. Also, they can't really be cleaned, so if you have an oily-coated or muddy dog (like a Labrador), this rug is probably not for you. Indoor use only. Imported.

What is jute?
Jute is a renewal resource--it is a type of plant fiber used to make common items such as rope, twine, chair coverings, curtains, sacks, hessian cloth, and carpets. This is accomplished by spinning the fiber into a coarse thread. The thread created from jute is quite strong, yet it is among the cheapest of natural fibers available. It also has exceptional insulating properties, low thermal conductivity, and antistatic characteristics. However, jute tends to lose its strength when wet, so it should be kept dry, if possible.
