HANDWOVEN COTTON RAG RUGS
Handwoven rugs were one area in which the Shakers' love of color and design truly blossomed. Most rag rugs made in the 19th century were practical, but not particularly well designed. Shaker rugs, however, were characterized by a sense of order, balance, and symmetry. Rag rugs were made for years in all the Shaker villages.
Our rag rugs are warp-faced, which means that the pattern is determined by the warp. Our warp is multicolored. A special feature of these rugs is that they are tightly woven, but also soft to the touch. Handwoven from a high quality American-made cotton yarn and new cotton fabric scrap from clothing manufacturers. Reversible. Made in USA.
