NATIVITY RETABLO
Retablos are an art form unique to Peru. They have evolved from the portable altars which the Spanish conquistadores brought with them in the 16th century. This one is the work of the renowned Jimenez brothers, Eleudora and Mabilon. It consists of a gaily painted wooden box filled with familiar figures of the Nativity story, and an angel band playing overhead. Retablo measures 11 7/8" wide x 2 7/8" deep x 9 5/8" overall height. Each one is an original work of art, signed by the artists. Handmade in Peru.
