SHAKER BEDS
This bedstead illustrates the Shaker's belief that simple things are the most beautiful and the most useful. We make this bed with a solid Eastern white pine headboard, double-tenoned and pinned into the hard maple headposts. The rest of the frame is also solid hard maple. This combination of woods is typical of the work of the Mt. Lebanon, New York Shakers, where this piece originated.
We have adapted the bed for modern mattresses by raising the headboard 3" up from the head rail, as shown in the photograph. Height from top of head rail to top of headboard is 15 1/4". Height of headposts is 34". Height of footposts 23 1/2". Available in twin, double, and queen sizes. Shown in Medium Stain with Lacquer Finish.
We offer this bed in two versions:
1) With specially bored solid maple side rails (shown) and 3/8" manila rope for an authentic Shaker rope foundation--to accommodate a sheet of 3/4" plywood (not included) and futon or mattress, and
2) With plain solid maple side rails (not shown) and sturdy iron "L" brackets--to accommodate a modern box spring and mattress.
Available as an unfinished kit and a "made to order" finished piece. Please select the stain of your choice (below).
