No. 5 Tape Back Shaker Arm Chair - unassembled and unfinished kit
In the early 1860's, the Mt. Lebanon Shakers designed a line of chairs sized specifically for those who were to use them, ranging from the No. 0, for infants, up to the No. 7, for large-sized adults. The No. 5 size was intended for use as a dining chair. The back posts are bent to the rear and the back rails are generously curved, so that the back "fits" a person - tall or short - perfectly.
We reproduce the No. 5 Tape Back Shaker Arm Chair in hard maple. Height of back is 40 3/4". Height to top of arms 25 1/8". Height of seat 17 1/2". Width 20 3/4". Depth 17 1/8".
Shown in medium stained hard maple with a hand-rubbed oil and wax finish; woven in 5/8" Olive/Black Stripe Shaker chair tape in a herringbone pattern.
This item is an unassembled and unfinished kit. All physical components to make this as a project are included along with instructions, however, you will be required to provide the necessary sandpaper, glue, and finish--as well as be reasonably comfortable with your own skills to obtain a satisfactory result.
