Sabbathday Lake Shaker Tailoring Counter
Some of the most wonderful pieces of Shaker furniture are characterized by the delightful asymmetry seen in the drawer arrangement of this tailoring counter from the Sabbathday Lake, Maine community, which dates from about 1840. The harmony between the Shaker cabinetmaker and the materials of his craft are immediately apparent. The original is in the collection of the United Society of Shakers at Sabbathday Lake, Maine. We have slightly reduced the depth of the original counter to make this practical as a sideboard or bureau.
We make the Tailoring Counter in solid hard maple, with drawer interiors of pine. Mortise-and-tenon joinery on the legs and aprons, with dovetailed drawers. Height is 34 5/8". Top measures 66" wide x 21" deep.
Shown in a medium stain with a lacquer topcoat.
