Rust (formerly Indian Red) Shaker Chair Tape - 1" wide
In all the Shaker communities, fabric tape was preferred over rush, wood splint, or cane because it is so functional. It does not dry out and break, nor does it pinch or snag clothing. It is stronger and longer lasting, and it is simple and quick to weave. In addition, it is more comfortable and colorful. A popular traditional technique was to weave two contrasting colors (maroon and beige, for example) to achieve a checkerboard pattern.
The tape itself is heavy-duty 100% cotton canvas webbing, dyed to our specifications with fade-resistance in mind. Imported. Our colors are very close to those used by the Shakers themselves.
To determine the correct amount of yardage you will need for your tape order, use this formula: First, measure the front rail between the posts, in inches. Second, measure straight across from the center of the back rail to the center of the front rail, in inches. Multiply these numbers together. Divide the resulting figure by 9, and that's the total number of yards of 1" tape required. For 5/8" tape, divide by 5.3, rather than by 9. If you want to use two colors, order half the total number of yards per color. Please note that our tape is sold in 5-yard and 10-yard rolls. If you needed 12 1/2 yards, for example, order 15 yards.
We are also pleased to offer replacement seating foam.
