Butternut Shaker Chair Tape - 1" wide
In all the Shaker communities, fabric tape was preferred over rush, wood splint, or cane because it is so functional. It does not dry out and break, nor does it pinch or snag clothing. It is stronger and longer lasting, and it is simple and quick to weave. In addition, it is more comfortable and colorful. A popular traditional technique was to weave two contrasting colors (maroon and beige, for example) to achieve a checkerboard pattern.
We now price and sell our Shaker tape by the yard. While we seek to minimize the number of splices in your order, they will invariably occur over longer lengths. The tape itself is heavy-duty 100% cotton canvas webbing, dyed to our specifications with fade-resistance in mind. Our colors are very close to those used by the Shakers themselves.
Wondering how much tape you need to order? We've prepared a yardage calculating guide to help you out! We also include weaving instructions with each order. We recommend you order in 5 yard increments, rounding up so that you do not accidentally run short.
We are also pleased to offer replacement seating foam.
